Getting Your Feet Ready For The Summer
Moisturise
Nobody wants to see a crust of dead skin on your feet as you hit the beach. Luckly there are ways to avoid it. This condition builds when your feet are dried out and exposed to friction from walking, running, ect. Make sure to regularly wash and moisturise your feet to avoid this issue. If it persists, consider a pumice stone or a foot scrub to take off that excess skin.
Poor Nails
Dirty, discoloured, and ingrown toenails not only look bad but also present potential health concerns. Dirt and discolouration are causes/symptoms of infection. Ingrown toenails are especially dangerous, as they can cut into the skin itself, creating an inaccessible open wound. Make sure to properly clip and wash your toenails all year round.
Pool Caution
During the warmer months, many people enjoy attending pools to go swimming. In public areas like this, it’s important to be wary about catching verrucas. Around changing rooms and the pool edge, wear waterproof socks or flip flops to help avoid getting this type of wart on the bottom of your feet.
Keeping Your Feet Vibrant During The Summer
Sunburnt Feet
People don’t often consider that their feet are as susceptible to sunburn as any other part of their body. Just as your face can get sunburnt without a hat or sunscreen, walking in the sun with nothing but a pair of sandals can take its tole on the skin of your feet. Make sure that your feet are protected.
Apply sunscreen to your feet as often as your would to your face in order to prevent this issue.
If you do find yourself with sunburnt feet, it’s time to take yourself away from the sun. Stay in a shaded area as much as possible, keep them moisturised/lotioned with something like Aloe vera, and try not to wear anything against them until they are healed. Socks and shoes are no good once the damage has already been done, as they do still rub against the skin of your feet which is detrimental to skin recovering from sunburn.
Injury And Infection
One of the common mistakes people make during summer to neglect their feet’s safety. Many will even walk bare-footed. This is deeply unsafe, especially in communal areas. Broken glass and other detritus can come into contact with your feet, injuring them in ways you may not even notice – a small shard of glass may feel like nothing until you are dealing with an infection. Moreover, the ground is host to any and every germ available which can lead to infections. Keep your feet protected when outdoors, even on the beach.
